Planning and building
The original clubhouse, a pre-fabricated building, served Kibworth Tennis Club well for some 40 years, before maintenance became a non-ending task, beyond which the only solution was to ‘start again’. A sub-committee was formed to look into the options for building types, designs and possible sources of funding, without which we would be unable to proceed. After several years of preparation, design, planning, funding applications and sheer hard work, in 2017 we were fortunate enough to be awarded funding from two sources, which along with our own funds, enabled us to start the building project.
The results can be seen in the above pictures. We now have a substantial, modern, well insulated, low maintenance and thoroughly practical clubhouse, with a long lifespan.
We were lucky enough to achieve funding from two bodies and our sincere thanks go to both, as well as to Kibworth Parish Council, who agreed to a new 30-year lease of the land on which our club stands and supported us strongly in our funding applications. Outside funding came from these two sources:
Firstly, Sport England, whose objective is to encourage the playing of tennis, by people of all ages, with emphasis on the recruitment and retention of new members.
Secondly, Section 106, a fund operated by Market Harborough DC, which raises money from local property developers and allocates it to local community bodies and projects, for the general benefit of local people. The emphasis in this case is that funding must benefit the community generally and not just the club or society involved. So as well as benefiting the community with the availability of a friendly local tennis club, we are also happy to offer the use of the clubhouse to other local groups for meetings and other suitable events – regrettably not parties!
If you want to use the clubhouse
The clubhouse contains a table with seating for 12 people and a further smaller table with chairs, a kitchen area, male and female changing rooms and toilets including facilities for the disabled. It is fully kitted out with a state of the art fire warning system and emergency lighting.
There is no charge for use of the clubhouse; all we ask is that it is left in the state in which you find it.
If you want to enquire about using the clubhouse, please email our current Chairperson, Julie, at firstname.lastname@example.org
